Joshua Tree Camping

Joshua Tree Campsites MapThere are no hotels or lodges inside the park, so if you want to stay inside, you will need to choose from one of several campgrounds. The are nine campgrounds situated throughout the park that provide great access to the activities and sights in the park. Campgrounds are open year round.

Joshua Tree has a 30-day camping limit per year and only 14 nights may occur from October to May. Campsites are restricted to 6 people, three tents and two cars. Group sites can accommodate 10 to 60 people.

(1) Belle Campground
3,800' elevation; 18 sites; $10 fee; no water. Belle is one of the smaller and more secluded sites available.

(2) Black Rock Campground
4,000' elevation; 100 sites; $15 camping fee; water and flush toilets; horse camp. Black Rock is located in the northwest corner of the park, overlooking the town of Yucca Valley.

(3) Cottonwood Campground
3,000' elevation; 62 sites, $15 camping fee; 3 group sites, $25 camping fee; water and flush toilets. Cottonwood is located at the southern entrance and visitors center off of I-10.

(4) Hidden Valley Campground
4,200' elevation; 45 sites; $10 camping fee; no water; no motor home or vehicle plus trailer longer than 25 feet. Hidden Valley is one of the more popular spots in the park and it is located near the Wonderland of Rocks, making it an ideal base point for rock climbers.

(5) Indian Cove Campground
3,200' elevation; 101 sites, $15 camping fee; 13 group sites, $20/$35 camping fee; water at ranger station. Indian Cove is located off Highway 62 is is near the northern area of the Wonderland of Rocks.

(6) Jumbo Rocks Campground
4,400' elevation; 124 sites; $10 camping fee; no water. Jumbo Rocks is the largest campground in the park and is surrounded by many fantastic rock formations.

(7) Ryan Campground
4,300' elevation; 31 sites; $10 camping fee; no water; horse camp. Ryan is centrally located and another good site for rock climbers.

(8) Sheep Pass Campground
4,500' elevation; 6 group sites; $20/$35 camping fee; no water. Sheep Pass is a group only site and is located near the trail to Ryan Mountain.

(9) White Tank Campground
3,800' elevation; 15 sites; $10 camping fee; no water; no motor home or vehicle plus trailer longer than 25 feet. White Tank is another secluded site, located further down the road from Belle.

 

Reservations
Reservations are required for Black Rock, Indian Cove and any group site. Make reservations online, or by calling 1-800-365-2267. All other sites are first-come first-served.
