When I saw how close the park was to Palm Springs, I arranged to travel out several days early so I could go hiking. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I essentially knew that it was the desert, there were mountains and there were these really funky trees.

Needless to say, I fell in love with the park on that visit. Upon entering the park, I felt like I was entering a completely different world. Huge and varied rock formations dotted the landscape that looked like they had been randomly dropped from the heavens. And the Joshua Trees - they truly give the park an surreal, Daliesque feel. Every tree seemed to have its own distinct personality with no two growing the same way.
